To build the chicken coop we first had to finish the 3 year old unfinished rendering. After a little playing with mixtures we got a really nice consistency, about that of yoghurt. It was then really easy to finish everything off. Tobin also encouraged me to be more generous with the oxides, for which I am greatly thankful.
The mix is:
- half a bag of acrylic cement render premix
- two shovels of granitic sand
- oxide to taste
- water till it forms a smooth yoghurt like consistency
After a day or two, when it is hard to touch but not rock hard, brush over the surface with a stiff broom to bring out the quartz crystals. And it sparkles in the sun. It will probably need replacement in 10 years, as it is not stabilised enough I think. But in 10 years I would probably like a different colour anyway. We could do the whole garage in a solid day with two people, which is much faster than previous mixes.
